Can a single life leave an indelible mark on a community, a school, and even rival sports teams? The tragic passing of Zyrainna Drayton, a vibrant 18-year-old senior at South Columbus High School, has done just that, demonstrating the profound impact one individual can have on those around them.

Zyrainna, known affectionately as "Rain" to her teammates, friends, and family, was more than just a basketball player; she was a beacon of academic excellence, a cherished teammate, and a beloved member of her community. Her sudden departure on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Whiteville, NC, has sent ripples of grief and remembrance throughout Columbus County and beyond. She resided at 15 Bruce Street, Fair Bluff, NC. The news of her death has touched many, including those who knew her personally and those who were moved by the stories of her character and achievements. Drayton was a senior at South Columbus High School. She was a player on the girls varsity basketball team. She was looking forward to participate in the South Columbus MLK Womens Basketball Classic.
